West Country Lamb and Beef PGI 2014. Please don’t think achieving any of the Protected Food Name certifications is a quick and easy process. It takes years of producing evidence and support for your product. For example it took West Country Lamb and Beef ten years work to attain Protected Geographical Indication status.
It was worth the wait though as it’s now available all over the UK at many supermarkets. Recently they have secured a deal to supply a major Italian food group with over two hundred outlets which is great news for the local farmers and for UK export.
West Country Lamb and Beef can only come from the six counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. The milder climate of these counties produces a different quality of grass which has a longer growing season, this in turn makes for some wonder meat.
It’s available in most good supermarkets when in season and also here and above.
